Tour Itinerary: Day one
Morning arrival at the Hotel, Bath to drop off luggage and meet your tour guide and other tour members.
We will then start with a guided tour of Bath before lunch is provided at The Pump Rooms where there will also be an opportunity to "take the waters".
After lunch we will continue on our walking tour of Jane Austen's Bath, taking in the city’s impressive architectural landmarks and visiting No. 1 The Royal Crescent, a heritage museum that recreates Georgian interior design.
There is free time in the evening to enjoy the city, with plenty of local pubs and restaurants to choose from.
Depart the hotel after breakfast and travel by executive minibus to Steventon in Hampshire, birth place of Jane Austen.
Today starts with a visit to Jane’s church in Steventon where her father was Rector. From here, we travel to Chawton House Library, home of Edward Austen/Knight and frequent retreat for Jane. After refreshments on arrival, you will be taken on a guided tour of the house.
The tour includes a buffet lunch with recipes taken from the Knight family cookbook and a golden opportunity to dine at the very table where Jane, herself, would have eaten.
After time to enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds of Chawton House, we will take a walk to St Nicholas Church, Chawton, where the graves of Jane's beloved sister Cassandra and her mother lie. A five minute walk further takes us to The Jane Austen House Museum, where you can see her famous writing desk and don authentic Regency costume in the style of the day to day clothes of Jane’s time. You can even try out your quill skills before returning to Bath for a second overnight stay at the Abbey Hotel.
Check out and free time in Bath to see the city.
